Born out of tragedy, fuelled by hope. It began with two fathers reaching out in their grief after losing their sons to suicide (Ross and Jordan). Now, it is led by Mike McCarthy (Ross’s dad), who people may know from Sky News.
The Baton of Hope held its first tour in 2023 across numerous locations within the UK. Followed the launch of the Workplace Pledge and other initiatives.
In 2024, we launched the Baton of Hope Derby/Derbyshire, ready for the 2025 tour. In 2025, over 7,000 people supported the events throughout the 12-hour day, with 7 events, 100 baton bearers, and more than 100 volunteers contributing to the day.
Our local committee is supported by people bereaved, affected or passionate about suicide prevention. The tour is locally funded through partnership packages and fundraising.
There are many ways you can get involved, from being a baton-bearer to volunteering, being a partner, and more. Check out the about us section or contact us.
